Planification basic infrastructure

Since Actelion’s space requirements could no longer be met at its site within the Allschwil Innovation Center, a new building was constructed.

The front entrance of the new research building from the street is accented by an impressive, inviting glass façade, whereas the side walls modestly feature strip windows.

Particular emphasis was placed on the spatial design of the entrance hall which extends from the ground floor through the second and third floor area to the inner courtyard. The result is a space spanning several levels, with access to the library, cafeteria and conference room via open stairways and a glass elevator.

Apart from the reception area, the ground floor encompasses the entire infrastructure for the supply and disposal of chemicals and solvents. The five upper levels accommodate chemical, biological and pharmacological research laboratories with associated, adjunct rooms. Open stairways between the individual levels again promote personal contact and communication.

The building is designed along a raster pattern that permits maximum flexibility in terms of internal structuring.
