Urban development The uniform, continuous building height of 18.50 metres summarises the volumes on the competition site into a single unit. The measure softens the image of the new buildings in the heterogeneously structured quarter.
Architecture The irregular shape of the volumes favours and optimises the penetration of sunlight. Direct views are reduced to a minimum. The alignment of the development is predominantly east-west. The public area in the centre of the site development connects all buildings. The care centre and the senior citizen’s residence are summarised into a single unit by a private inner courtyard. The residents are guaranteed peace and privacy.
The Senior Citizen’s Residence In a similar manner to the care centre, the central connection in the senior citizen’s residence offers a tour of the floor. Light wells over the staircases staggered on a floor basis optimise the penetration of light. Extensions of the movement areas along the facade offer space for meeting places.
Facades The large facades reduce the large scale of the building. Two apartments are summarised in one facade opening. The low number of windows gives the buildings a generous scale. The white concrete of the prefabricated facade elements is in contrast to the generous, massive, wooden windows. The terraces on the uppermost floor of the senior citizen’s residence and the care centre are extra high. This enables the roof area to be designed as an independent, closed-off garden. |
