Hotelplan HeadquarterGlattbrugg, Switzerland 2000 - 2003Alpine Finanz AG, Vadzu/FL Competition 1st prize |
The Hotelplan headquarters respond with a simple, clear form and uniform materials to a heterogeneous environment – a cube that is as sharp as a crystal and stands as a symbol for the areas nearby as well as farther away. The building concept is based on three units covered by a single roof. They have an inner, open, flexible and communicative space structure in the form of a quiet glass-roofed court protected from aircraft noise. The structures are connected and allow maximum flexibility of use through vertical and horizontal traffic paths which lead through the court and can be applied variably.
The inner world evolves by interaction with the natural influences of light, the weather and the changing seasons. This creates a lively, light-flooded communication space which contributes substantially to the quality of the workplace.
The outer facade is a double-skinned construction designed to minimize the enormous noise pollution of this site and to optimize the climatic conditions.
In front of the southern facade is a steel structure covered by climbers instead of the conventional row of trees. It serves on the one hand as a natural guard against sunlight, and on the other hand for creating a unique interior atmosphere.
