The personnel restaurant is located at a central site near the Aeschenplatz square in the building of a former printing company.
The rather complicated existing substance of the former multi-storey printing building essentially comprises a ground floor with massive concrete columns and a single-floor court building. The building gives the project a certain placidity combined with industrial pragmatism. Different floor levels and the difference in height of over one meter relative to the street level had to be overcome to ensure smooth procedures which would also meet the needs of the handicapped.
The personnel restaurant comprises four sections, two restaurant areas, a free-flow part and a café, the latter with its own opening hours.
The entire complex is accessed through a shared entrance at the street level and the associated stairs for overcoming the difference in height. The entrance zone also includes generous coat room installations and stairs descending to the toilets in the basement.
The culinary offerings are presented in a modern free-flow area, partly through self-service buffets, partly in the form of “cooking in front of the guest” (wok, grill), and offers guests a special eating delight. In the café with its generously sized bar with service, guests are offered (under illumination) top-class coffee variations, other beverages, pastry and sandwiches. A smoking area is integrated.
In designing the interior, deliberate care was taken to ensure a soft and cheerful colorfulness, backed by lighting effects. Benches are placed alongside the walls as “thrones for guests”; some also stand alone in the room. The separation of the various building units was characterized by a so-called colonnade, which appreciably enhances the value of the room’s limits with its colors. The flow of guests is short, without any obstructing crossings, transparent and clear.
The delivery and disposal sections and the kitchen with its main refrigeration rooms and the adjacent dishwashing area are located on the same floor, allowing smooth and trouble-free operations.
