Apartments Küchlin

Basel, Switzerland

2004 - 2006

Kinvar AG, Basel

Architecture, realization, Collaboration with Bernhard Floris Architekt

In the suburb of Steinen, Basel’s traditional movie mile, November 2007 saw the opening of the city’s first multiplex cinema: The “Kuechlin”, built between 1911 and 1912 as a variety theater, was expanded by an adjoining new structure into a movie theater complex with a total of eight halls and 2300 seats. In the old building, parts of which are protected as a historic monument, offices and apartments were built in what was once the stage tower and a bar has opened in the former foyer.

On the roof of the new addition, five spacious, two-storey penthouse apartments have been built, generating the exciting sensation of separate living high above the hustle and bustle of the Steinen suburb.
