Office building SchwarztorstrasseBern, Switzerland 2005 - 2007Bundesamt für Bauten und Logistik, Bern Architecture, realization |
The building, planned in 1972 by the well-known Bernese architect Frank Geiser, has a classic curtain-type facade. After more than 30 years, the materials used had come to the end of their normal life span. Complete redevelopment of the facade and flat roofs was necessary.
During the planning phase, the original contract for replacement of the building shell mutated into a total reconstruction which was realised in 2006. This made it possible to accommodate the structural and safety requirements of the future use by the Federal Administrative Court in a targeted manner.
The new facade construction takes over the existing basic grid of the building. The inner walls as well as all floor and ceiling coverings were replaced by new ones. Likewise, the majority of the technical installations of the building were dismantled and renewed.
This has resulted in the creation of 141 modern and state-of-the-art workplaces which will be used on a provisional basis by the Federal Administrative Court until it moves into the new building in St.Gallen. |
