New building of a seminar hotel in Solothurn, Switzerland
Thanks to its location, the Hotel im Park on the one hand creates the eastern boundary of the open space and on the other hand leaves a strong mark on the bridgehead.
The mineral structure with its abstract perforated facade is derived from the historical buildings opposite. This reinterpretation between wall and opening gives the relatively massive structure a certain lack of scale. The building acts as a large sculpture in the park.
The perforated facade functions as a filter between the public and the private space. The usual central hotel window is avoided; instead, a number of possibilities for peeking out are created, which allow interesting spatial shadow plays.

Along the arcade-like guideline on my way to the entrance, I catch a quick, exciting glimps of the park hall; reduced openings make this view very charming.
The inviting, cozy atmosphere inside the lobby makes me feel at home or at a good friend’s.
Oh, the friendly lady in the suitable outfit welcomes me and hands me my room badge. Impatient and expectant, I take the elevator to my new home. I open the door and...wow!... I am speechless. A bathtub in the middle of the room and the bed with a view of the old town center. This I have never experienced before. I slump into one of the comfortable armchairs and pick up the phone. I have to tell this to my wife – after all, why not share this experience one day?
The penthouse bar arouses my curiosity while I am still outside. I am now standing at the long, brilliantly lit bar with a Margarita in my hand and watch the scene. The fully glazed facade offers me an exquisite panorama of the lights of this beautiful baroque town.
An unforgettable party can now begin.
After so many exceptional impressions, I go to the wellness area. A mysterious feeling of well-being envelopes me in the crystal sauna. I cool down by taking one of the breathtaking adventure showers. The absolute sensation is an oval room extending through two stories, which houses a sound and meditation room.
