Laboratory building dermatics and genercis Spirig Pharma

Egerkingen, Switzerland

2004 - 2006

Spirig Pharma AG, Egerkingen

General planning, architecture, realization

Initial situation

Spirig Pharma AG is a Swiss company headquartered in Egerkingen (SO). Its 200 employees are active in all areas from development and production to marketing and distribution of high-quality dermatics and generics. Spirig plans to construct a new laboratory building on its premises in Egerkingen. The building design is to be clear and to be matched to the processes. The architectural design of the building envelope will be such that it fulfills a PR function while giving consideration also to the laws of functionality.

Building concept

The required space will be created on three building levels. The building is designed as a classical three-section structure. The basement will house the domestic engineering area, the storage section, the archives and the cloakrooms. On the ground floor and the first floor, laboratories will be installed for quality checking and for research and development, flanked by offices and meeting rooms in the front of the building. The inner core will feature two combined passenger and goods lifts, a staircase and the vertical media systems, complemented by additional laboratory rooms. Access to the building will be from the east and be linked with the future main entrance of the administration building through an outside connection. The staff entrance on the western side of the building is linked by a “logistics path” to the production building. An extension of the laboratory capacities at a later date will be possible by adding three more building levels on top of this structure. The future building will then have a height of 20 meters. The cubature of the building planned for the current stage amounts to 14,850 cubic meters, and the gross floor area to 3,730 square meters.

Laboratory concept

The laboratory equipment system is of modular design. The individual system components will be planned and built in compliance with all the relevant safety regulations. The laboratory concept was created in very close collaboration with the staff of the Spirig company.
