Production and administration Stoppani AG

Stoppani AG is a dynamic, successful company active in the manufacture and assembly of products for the semiconductor industry, aviation industry and other customers of the high-tech segment. Its business calls for a modern, functional building which will also generate the required image by architectural means.

After a number of rebuild studies for the existing production site produced unsatisfactory results, Stoppani AG decided to construct a new building. The company entrusted the project to a team of architects chosen on the basis of a competition.

The performance description specified by Stoppani AG provided for a well-lit, airy building complying with ecological principles and offering the flexibility to meet changing space needs. The building is divided into manufacturing and assembly sections with the necessary storage and shipping areas; offices; personnel amenities such as locker rooms, canteen and training rooms plus an underground car park. A total of about 8,000 square meters of gross floor area were necessary. As in other projects, too, one of the goals was to observe a given cost ceiling.

The Burckhardt+Partner AG building concept features three production halls and a head building, which are linked by connecting buildings. Two additional halls can be added to the production plant at a later date. The architecture reflects simplicity and transparency. The generously sized glazed facade is shaded by a skin of perforated sheet metal elements. This produces a special architectural message which manifests itself in the darkness as a result of the light shimmering through. This contrasts sharply with the daytime effect.
