Swatch Pont de la MachineGeneva, Switzerland 2005 - 2006The Swatch Group SA, Biel General planning, architecture, Association with Atelier Oï |
The central building element, open from the ground floor to the roof, represents the focal area of the project. This building area creates space for vertical communication as well as a forum for events.
In 2003, the Swatch Group was given the opportunity to rent the former power generation building located in the center of Geneva’s river bank along the Pont de la Machine, for the creation of a center of events with the thematic of ‘time’.
The complex is situated in the central body of the building on 3 levels and in the two building wings on the 1st floor. In the central area of the ground floor, a reception and coffee corner are combined with a space for thematic exhibitions. On the 1st floor of the central building, a coffee restaurant is located together with areas for temporary exhibitions in the two building wings. On the top level of the central building under the roof, an area is arranged dedicated to creation. In this atrium, 4 large projection screens cover the different levels of the building, thus creating the effect of an exhibition in motion. The decor of this space covered by glazing produces special effects under natural and artificial light. The side areas on the 1st floor were decorated as museum spaces in order to guarantee optimum flexibility for the arrangement of temporary exhibitions. |
