Uster Hospital

Uster, Switzerland

2000 - 2003

Zweckverband Spital Uster, Uster

General planning, architecture, realization

The project comprises seven subprojects, which are being implemented in the context of the fourth construction stage of the Uster hospital. It covers various tasks: review and optimizing of the preliminary projects established by an earlier team of planners, especially with regard to hospital-specific matters; new design of the restaurant and garden wing (bed house); issuing of general contractor invitations to bid; majority of construction planning; supervision of general contractor work. The services and fee contract was based on the SIA Service Model.

The client’s requirements for the general planner were: optimizing of processes and space conditions; identification of possible cost reduction potential; client-friendly and promotionally effective design of the building areas accessible to clients.

The general planner was expected to be experienced in hospital projects in order to optimize and further develop a partly existing project and to meet time, cost and quality targets: The planner was selected on the basis of a public invitation to bid.

The stage-by-stage construction work was carried out without interrupting hospital operations. This project was very typical of present-day hospital projects. Burckhardt+Partner AG Bern has the required expertise to handle such challenges, a fact amply demonstrated by a number of references.
