The existing building will be raised by 2 floors for the bringing together of the animal breeding (rodents and dogs) and research. Like the previous roof, the new roof will be used as an exercise area for dogs and as technical floor. The height of the building following this addition will be in line with that of the neighbouring building, a fact which creates a by all means positive impression in the overall concept for the Rhine front.
The facade will be drawn around the entire building as a curtain type network interacting with the earthquake protection measures. The impression by day is different to that at night as the transparency of the network during the day does not permit looking in from the outside, whilst it is possible to look out from the inside; at night, lit windows are then by all means visible. In order to make better use of the synergies, a footbridge to the neighbouring building will be built on the 5th floor. The access points are respectively near the vertical connections.
The previous allocation of use from the ground floor to the 3rd floor will be taken over with minor adjustments.
In order to fulfil the requirements in terms of earthquake protection, the building will be incorporated in a steel corset which is linked non-positively with the earthquake disks at floor level on the ground floor. Each storey ceiling is enclosed by a surrounding belt of steel supports firmly connected to the ceiling at the prescribed points. These belts are firmly connected to the “ends” of the earthquake disks via vertical steel supports. The network construction of the facade with consoles is assembled on these belts at a sufficient distance. |
