Novartis Pharma AG, Basel

General planning, architecture, realization

The architecture of the building reflects the residential and park environment and expresses the function of quiet research and development. The L-shaped ground plan measuring 45 meters by 36 meters’ facade length includes a basement level for the building systems and ancillary rooms plus four floors above ground, two each combined for the production level and the associated technical zone located just above it. This enables each production area to be individually supplied directly from above with the necessary media.

The production areas are designed as clean rooms with a pharmaceutics wall and ceiling system and with an antistatic epoxy floor.

The regulated flow of persons and goods prevents confusions, defines the cleaning steps to comply with purity requirements, and allows access checking of personnel.

The know-how for this standard-setting project was gained from the close collaboration between the general planner, Novartis Engineering Services and the users. The result is one of today’s most advanced pharmaceutical development and production sites for solid dispensing forms in the world.
